DYRBERG/KERN products are created by hand and undergo many
different processes: from casting, polishing and plating of the metal base,
to hand braided macramé, to cutting, polishing, and insertion of semiprecious
stones and brilliant crystals. Finally the many different elements
of one single jewellery piece are assembled. After each process,
a specific quality control is performed.
BASE MATERIALS USED The decision regarding which base material to use, depends solely on
the individual design and the properties of the jewellery item. If a soft,
organic look is wanted, we go for brass. If a strong, technically perfect
and clean product is needed, we use stainless steel.
Stainless steel is a very hard, strong and durable metal alloy with a
content of iron and chrome. Stainless undergo a number of processes,
which make it practically scratch free and resistible to corrosion and
oxidation. The colour of steel is a cold silvery shade, which may be given a high polish or structured surface, depending on the desired result.
Stainless steel can be top coated for a different colour finish.
Brass is typically an alloy made of copper and zink. It is a soft, moldable
yet very strong and scratch free metal, which may be cast and shaped
into practically any form you can imagine. The colour of brass is a soft
yellow shade, which may be polished to perfection, but over time the
colour darkens as it gets in contact with oxygen.
To prevent it from oxidation a top coat is necessary.
THE PLATING
Ion plating is one of the most advanced surface finishing processes
on the market. Ion plating is carried out in a vacuum environment and
makes the top plating more durable and more resistant.
It also provides a higher brightness.
The greatest advantage of the ion plating process is that the surface
created is both harder and chemically more stable than that produced
through traditional wet plating methods.
Experiments have proven that the plating obtained through Ion plating is
five to eight times better than what can be obtained through traditional
methods in terms of wear and corrosion resistance.
The colour of the ion plating may change over time with the use of various
coloured, allergy tested metals.
FACET CUT CRYSTALS / Small crystal stones have
been facet cut to perfection and are hand set in jewel
cavities to create sparkle beyond your imagination.
SEMI-PRECIOUS GEMSTONES / Natural stones
cut into various shapes and forms. Please note that
all styles containing genuine gemstones have natural
surfaces and therefore the stones vary from piece to
piece. No two stones look the same, and this is to be
considered a design feature to be emphasized and
appreciated, and not a reason for claim.
